Sister’s House

BXL City

At Sister’s House, a Brussels Refugees emergency shelter for migrant and refugee women in Brussels, we painted walls together with residents and volunteers.

Through regular workshops, the project created space for expression beyond language, encouraged creative confidence, and sparked meaningful exchanges in a place that’s becoming home.

Vision

To create a welcoming, dignified space through collective mural-making with residents and volunteers.

To empower migrant and refugee women to express themselves, build confidence, and feel ownership over their environment.

Achievements

Expression Beyond Words:

Creative workshops allowed residents to communicate stories through art, overcoming language barriers and giving them a powerful way to make their presence visible and understood.

Meaningful Connections:

Collaborative painting fostered genuine exchanges between residents and volunteers, building a stronger sense of community within the shelter environment.

Confidence and Ownership:

By shaping their space, residents gained self-worth, developed new skills, and felt empowered to take ownership of their temporary home.
