Neighbourhood Mural
Anderlecht
During the summer of COVID staycations became the new reality. Over several months, this container and corner of the Abattoir site was transformed into a new hangout spot for the Cultureghem family: A social organisation that aims to reclaim public space with public aid and inclusivity. During workshops and collective activities, their visual vocabulary got created and painted together with volunteers, neighbours and local business owners.
Vision
Visualise the identity of the Cultureghem family and people of Abattoir.
Create hangout spot for the young people of Anderlecht.
Outcomes
A new visual identity:
The participants involved decided to represent a theme of “family” and "open welcome” to anyone regardless of race, social class or gender.
Strengthened connections:
We brought different people together for the project, including Cultureghem volunteers, local business owners and neighbours from the Anderlecht area.
Ownership of the area:
The mural was extended from the container to the public space, which meant more connections and a sense of belonging for the community.
