Electricity Boxes

Ixelles

For two consecutive summers we worked within Ixelles commune to paint a total of 15 electricity boxes around the neighborhood involving various local organizations including Malinard (local youth house), La Bulle (mobile launderette for the homeless) and Denteirling (focus on running activities for people with mental health issues).

Vision

To reinforce the link between residents and their neighborhood.

To create a coherent visual parkour to connect the different spots where the boxes are placed and add color to the streets of Ixelles

Outcomes

Connection between people and the public space:

By focusing on different organizations working with vulnerable communities we allowed for spontaneous connections and accessibility to the public space of these communities.

A cleaner public space:

The electricity boxes tend to be spaces where rubbish accumulates. By painting them and cleaning them with the community we promote awareness of cleaner public spaces.

A creativity license for anyone involved:

The artistic nature of the project allowed for the community to explore their creativity in a non judgemental and accessible way.
